Redwood: A Renewable & Sustainable Resource
Redwood makes it easy to be green without sacrificing quality or elegance. Redwood is renewable and recyclable, and cleaner to produce than composites or plastics. Living green reflects commitment to conserving resources, reducing carbon foot print and living sustainably.
Using redwood reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Plastics and composites rely on chemical resins and fossil fuels that release carbon and increase emissions. Trees, however, take carbon out of the air and store it in wood fiber. Lumber keeps that carbon safely out of the atmosphere and helps reduce emissions.
Creatus Wood Products® pride ourselves in using recycled redwood products as a part of our redwood raw material base. Recycled redwood comes from the unused scraps from the sawmill processes or through the use of reclaimed lumber. As part of our recycling commitment, we also collect all the sawdust produced from the sawmill processes for future use as mulch and other organic soil amendments.
Redwood is grown and harvested in accordance with the highest environmental standards in the world, tapping the sun for energy and soaking-in California's famed North Coast fog. Roughly 90 percent of all product-producing redwood forests are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council or Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Choosing redwood means choosing natural wood from sustainable forests.
There are more than 1.7 million acres of redwood forests thriving in California about the same number of acres as we had before the Gold Rush, with about 400,000 acres held in public parks and reserves. Towering redwoods (redwood is the tallest tree in the world) and spectacular old-growth groves are typically found at the mouths of rivers and where centuries of periodic flooding deposited layers of nutrient-rich soils. Virtually all old-growth trees are protected from harvest, and forestry companies invest millions of dollars to enhance water quality throughout the redwood region.
Redwood lumber comes from privately owned, second- and third-generation forests that have raised sustainable forestry to new heights. With active management, forest-regeneration and continued conservation, there will be more redwoods in the near future than there are today.
Finger jointed and glued recycled redwood lumber provides the performance and quality of architectural grade redwood at an economical price. It is ideal for facia, soffits, siding and trim as well as for interior paneling and ceiling uses. Please read more on our Creatus Wood Premier® products.
